Saroma (佐呂間町 ,Saroma-chō?) is a town in the Tokoro District, Abashiri, Hokkaidō, Japan.
The name comes from the Ainu place name saruomahetsu, meaning place of many Miscanthus reeds and rushes.:[1]
As of November 30, 2008, the town has a population of 6,118 and a density of 15.1 persons per km². The total area is 404.99 km².
Lake Saroma (サロマ湖 ,Saroma-ko?) also Saroma Lagoon is a body of brackish water in Saroma, Kitami, and Yūbetsu Hokkaidō, Japan. It is located in Abashiri Quasi National Park. By area, the lake is the third largest in Japan and the largest in Hokkaidō.
